Our Story

Calm Africa is a charitable organisation, focusing on the promotion, observance and protection of the rights of the child in general, and concerned with the plight of vulnerable children in particular.  CALM Africa first started as a self help group in Kifamba sub county, Rakai District to support children affected by AIDS way back in 1985.

You have the chance to change a childs life forever

In 1990, after completing a degree at Makerere University, James Ssekiwanuka persuaded family members to allow a local community based group in the Rakai district (Uganda) to cater for more disadvantaged children. Later down the line in 2004, CALM Africa was registered as a Local Non Governmental Organisation (LNGO) to operate in Rakai and Sembabule districts to support orphans and other vulnerable children.

Since then, with the help of monetary and physical donations, CALM Africa has developed significantly as a charity. Aswell as supporting many children through immediate relief, they have constructed 35 homes for vulnerable families and 4 schools to allow access to education for many children. Calm Africa has changed innumerable lives so far and will continue to do so with the help and support of volunteers and donors.
